Place Winner - Best Family Resort in Australia 2014, 2015, 2016 & 2017
as voted by readers of Holidays with Kids Magazine

World Heritage-listed Fraser Island, the world's largest sand island, is a rare and beautiful holiday destination at the start of the Great Barrier Reef, offering a refreshing change from the bustle of mainland Australia and the resort islands of Queensland’s north.

The island’s untamed wilderness and rugged, natural charm entices from the first, providing 4WD adventure and excitement, but also a relaxing atmosphere from your base here at beautiful, eco-friendly Kingfisher Bay Resort. Once here, slip into island living and explore the hundreds of tracks which criss-cross the world's largest sand island. Immerse yourself in the ancient rainforests, which flourish in dune valleys, coloured sand cliffs on Seventy-Five Mile Beach or the mirrored lakes, ringed with gold, which tempt even the most reluctant swimmers.

Kingfisher Bay Resort was voted the Best Beach Resort in Australia by 'Discovery's Travel Channel' and has won six Australian Tourism and nine Queensland Tourism Awards. The stunning property, complete with mirror lakes and waterholes, blends seamlessly with the island's sensitive ecological systems.

Junior Eco Rangers Program ... great fun for kids aged 5-14 years!
In 2013 the Essential Kids website listed the Junior Eco Rangers program in their Ten Top Kids Clubs in Australian and worldwide.  These fun and informative sessions teach children to care for the environment and everything in it. The program is designed for kids 5-14 years and includes art, walks, orienteering, canoeing, spotlighting for animals and more. During school holidays the Junior Eco Ranger programs run daily.  During school terms, Junior Eco Rangers runs Fridays (night program) and Saturdays (two sessions).

Restaurants
Seabelle - an award-winning, a la carte restaurant where modern Australian cuisine meets bush tucker.
Maheno - hot and cold buffets with food themes changing each night and fresh seafood on Fridays and Saturdays.
Sand Bar - located by the beach, you can dine al fresco and this bistro also has great pizza.
Shopping Village Cafe - the place to pick up a picnic or take a coffee break.

Things to Do
Fraser Island is not just a four-wheel driving beach adventure. Kingfisher Bay is a true beach holiday destination where you can stroll along deserted beaches leaving footprints in the sand, sip cocktails as the sun sets over the sea and count the stars in the clear southern sky. Find your own private spot on the beach to watch the sun set over the sea or gather at the Jetty Hut bar. The Jetty Hut is also where you can book activities and water sports including hire of stand-up paddle boards, kayaks and Vu boards.

Ranger-Guided Bushwalks & Talks - Join the rangers on walks and talks throughout the day. Spot some of the 354 species that frequent the island. Find out how our plants survive in sand and how the Aborigines and early European settlers used plants for food and medicine. Come behind the scenes and see how Australia's leading environmental resort operates. On a night walk turn the spotlight on rare acid frogs, insectivorous bats and sugar gliders as they move through the trees.

Full Day Ranger-Guided 4WD Tour - Tours visit the island's beauty spots including Lake McKenzie, Central Station, Wanggoolba Creek and Pile Valley. Drive along famous Seventy-Five Mile Beach, swim in Eli Creek, photograph the Maheno ship wreck and see the coloured sands of the Pinnacles. The tours areconducted in modern, air-conditioned 4WD coaches. Morning tea, afternoon refreshments and a hot and cold buffet lunch are included. Pre booking is advised.

Whale Watching Cruise (Aug-Oct Only) - Cruise out to the calm waters of Platypus Bay to watch the gentle giants at play in the calm waters just off Fraser Island. They'll blow your mind! Experienced crew will add to the enjoyment of your day by explaining the whales' behaviour and making the tour educational and entertaining. The vessel is equipped with a hydrophone which allows you to listen to the musical call of the whales. Pre booking is advised.

Segway PT Adventures - Join the Rangers on a one-hour eco-adventure across the sands of Kingfisher Bay with the fleet of brand new green Segways. On this 60 minute adventure, guests use these two-wheeled, off-road adventure machines to manoeuvre along the inter-tidal zones and across the varied terrain on Fraser's western side. Sessions are tide and weather dependent and will run three hours before or three hours after high tide on the beach in the Great Sandy National Park.
